The Thirsty Parrot had over 100 people watching the game and served over 120 hot dogs and hamburgers, Jambalaya, beans and sauerkraut. Drawings were held every half hour, with people winning mp3 players, a bar blender, gift certificates to JCs and Kayak trips as well as NFL shirts and caps. Over $1500 was won in football pools. It was a blast! This weekend Brent Burns is back and will play tonight beginning at 7pm and tomorrow at 5pm.
Brother’s Pizza was packed as well. We didn’t make it to Capone’s, but no doubt they were jumpin’…as they usually are. Talked to Dave yesterday and somehow forgot to ask him. Going by what I saw of the delicious pig-roasting practice…Capone’s is really onto something.
At Debbie’s BeachBar, Kelly Bruce had a large group of friends watching the game. Tammy Mondragon of Kayak Rocky Point made the rounds and kept reporting in, but we kept missing each other. Roland Mondragon is going to be in RP full time now. It will be good to see you more often, Roland.
Latitude 31 had brisk business all day and raffles throughout the game. It was kind of late by the time I arrived, but saw Rebecca Palomino and her husband Rene. Gina Jeffery was there with her son Max, who was playing with Dallas Palomino (sounds like a character out of a TV western in the 50s, doesn’t it?) and Jenna and Alex Riggs. Latitude 31 is perfect for young families with children. The kids wind up playing and having a good time while the parents enjoy each other’s company.
I hung out with the guys from Channel 32 of San Luis Rio Colorado at Jerry’s Place and the Black Dog on Super Bowl Sunday. Well, not hung out, so much as interviewed for Aca Entre Nos, with host Victor Lopez. Aca Entre Nos is a talk show for various topics of interest to viewers. Victor also has a variety show called Saba Daba Du. I’m waiting to see the finished product. If I like it, I’ll share with you, if not…not. Alex Gomez is their local rep and tells me we’ll be seeing them around. Let me know if you want me to bring them by your place.
Best forwarded email prize: Goes to Sheryl Storey for the one about why British newspapers are so much better. Keep it up, Sheryl!
I saw Rob and Paulette Hickson of Las Conchas at Capone’s not too long ago. They were chatting with Ron Castillo. Paulette is celebrating her birthday on the 20th. I hope I’m back from Arizona in time. If not, Happy Birthday, Paulette!
I found a note reminding me to mention Rick Beckett, Sandy, Lesley Peletier, Roy Nielson in this column. The problem is that I wrote it on New Year’s Eve and just now found it. After talking to them, we joked about why Lesley refuses to marry Roy. Then he told me his last name…that explains it. She doesn’t want to be Lesley Nielson!
The new Quick Throttle Magazines have arrived. You motorcycle enthusiasts, feel free to come by the TVA and get your free copy.
And this from Kelly Mackie Disney on Facebook: It's OFFICIAL!! We have decided that we are going to do 2 parties this summer. That way if someone can't make one - perhaps they can make the other!
May 14, 15 and 16th
July 23, 24 and 25th
We will plan several events throughout the weekend. I am getting many replies to this along with lots of ideas, too! We are definitely reserving The Point on Saturday night for dinner and dancing! Other ideas that have been coming in: sunset cruise, beach bash, fish fry, clam bake.... we could even possibly put together a tour bus to bring people here, if you don't want to drive. Let's keep the ideas coming in - that will help us continue to plan and coordinate this to be a spectacular party!! Hopefully we can even make this an annual party!!
